How it works

  1. Choose a PDF file.
  2. Choose resolution and quality.
  3. Click “Convert to grayscale” and download the new PDF.

Notes and limitations

  • To catch every colour reliably, each page is rendered as an image and converted to gray. Text in the result is therefore no longer selectable or searchable.
  • The conversion uses the standard luminance weighting (ITU-R BT.709), so colours keep their perceived brightness.
  • Higher resolution means better quality and a larger file. Links and form fields are lost.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the file larger than before?

Text-only PDFs are very compact; as images the pages need more space. Choose a lower resolution or quality for smaller files.
