How it works

  1. Choose one or more AVIF files.
  2. Set quality and, if needed, the background colour for transparent areas.
  3. Click “Convert to JPG” and download the result.

Notes and limitations

  • Decoding uses your browser’s AVIF support (current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 16 or newer). Older browsers report that the file cannot be read.
  • Transparent areas get the chosen background colour, because JPG has no transparency.
  • HDR and wide-gamut AVIF images are converted to standard colours.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the JPG larger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses much more efficiently than JPG. At the same visual quality, JPG files are usually larger.
