How it works

  1. Choose an image file.
  2. Choose the output format: data URL, plain Base64, CSS, HTML or Markdown.
  3. Click “Convert” and copy the result or save it as .txt.

Notes and limitations

  • Base64 makes files about one third larger. Embedding is worthwhile mainly for small icons and graphics; large images slow pages down.
  • For SVG files, the URL-encoded variant is often shorter than Base64.
  • The image itself is not changed – the bytes are encoded exactly as they are.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn Base64 back into an image?

Yes – any browser displays a data URL directly. Paste it into the address bar of a new tab and save the image from there.
